HOW IS THE SIZE OF THE SEAL DETERMINED?

The seal size is measured from the outer surface of the liner.

The seal size is measured from the outer surface of the liner.

The shaft diameter plus liner determine which seal size is required. For example, an STA 170 means a total diameter of 170 millimetres with shaft and liner. In this example, the shaft diameter is between 146-160 millimetres. The machining (thickness) of the liner depends on the actual size of the shaft. The total diameter of shaft and liner will be 170 millimetres after machining, this is exactly what is required for the lip seals to be perfectly aligned.
